Entrepreneurial Journal Blog Beginning

This is just the beginning of my Entrepreneurial Journal Blog. I had originally created this blog so that I could fulfill the requirements of a class, and that’s what this next section will be as well. I began with blogging about what I had been learning as a Marriage and Family Studies major, looking to achieve my degree in Marriage and Family Therapy (MFT). This blog will be about what I am learning in my Introduction to Entrepreneurship class, which is ultimately my overall career journey.

I wanted to begin with talking about how I came to take this class. To do that, I will have to talk about my journey of self-discovery. I have always felt like I am good at anything that I set my mind to. However, after I returned home from serving a two-year mission for my church, I didn’t feel like anything really had much of any purpose. I was doing what I believed was God’s work- participating in the eternal salvation of souls! Nothing else can really compare to that, and I still stand by that. Although, as time passed, and I got out of my funk, and through self-discovery classes at BYU-I, I realized that my career path involved bringing the most light and purpose to my life, as well as others’ lives. To do that, I embarked on the path to become an MFT.

During my first semester in school, I did an informational interview with a friend’s father. He told me that he used to own a mental health clinic, and that there were a lot of successful clinicians, but they were terrible business owners, so they went under. I really took that to heart, because I would like to run my own MFT clinic someday. I don’t want to go under, so this class really resonated with me. It’s not necessary, and definitely not expected as an MFT to run a clinic, but I love the thought of bringing the most purpose to others’ lives through my unique experiences, skills, and creative brain. I hope that I will learn important principles and practices that will help me to learn whether or not I should pursue being a business owner, or simply help wherever I am needed!

Girls vs. Boys

     Boys and girls aren’t the same. I hope that’s not news to you! And, I have a pretty strong opinion that they shouldn’t be the same, either. I don’t think this as some sort of misogynist that wants to control women; far from it. Right now, and for a long time, we have been trying to make women the same as men, girls the same as boys. Why? You might feel like the differences between boys and girls are what segregate and discriminate. But, I want to show you that these differences absolutely should not have those effects. So, let’s talk about these differences.       First, boys are usually into “things”. As babies, they are more attracted to toys. They have more spatial awareness and interest. On top of that, they’re a lot more active; always bouncing off the walls, with a desire to do as much as they can. When it comes to play time, they're a lot more aggressive and competitive. Light and Truth

  In the event of stress, how do you and your family respond? Do you all respond the same way? How have different responses to stress events impacted your family? For me, I think immediately of one of my aunts. She already is someone who has a negative and dramatic outlook on life, so when her mother passed away over 10 years ago, it was extremely hard for her. And honestly, it totally should be; she’s justified in taking it hard. However, I feel like she has held onto the pain for way too long, and it has affected her immediate and extended family life. She has taken her pain out on God, but I also feel like it has been an excuse to extremely distance herself from her husband’s side of the family that she never really liked in the first place anyways. The way my aunt’s siblings took their mother’s deaths was much different from her response.
