Disciple Leadership

This week we talked about becoming disciple leaders. Typically when we talk about becoming a disciple, we are talking about following. But when we use these two words together we are talking about being both a follower and a leader. To me, a disciple leader is someone who can use the teachings of the one they follow, embody those teachings, and lead under those teachings as well. I believe that the best way to achieve this is through REALLY applying what you learn. So for me, I strive to follow the teachings of Jesus Christ. It is also important that we mention what the word strive means. To strive means to make great efforts, to struggle or fight vigorously, to achieve or obtain something. That definition is important to me because that means that there is heart and passion in what you do. I’m a firm believer that the most influential speakers that motivate you, or speak to your heart, are the ones that put passion into what they are saying. You know that they have put in some incredible work to be where they are today. So, to become a disciple leader isn’t half-hearted or unintentional, and there is no settling either- we aren’t just trying to become good followers and leaders, we are trying to become great followers and leaders.

We talked about becoming a disciple leader this week so that we can really take control of what kind of business owner we are. What will clients or customers think of us and our business? What type of employees will we hire? What will our employees think about us and our business? What services will we provide? How will we shape the culture of our business? When correction among employees is necessary, how will we navigate that situation? I feel like I have a cheat code with one of the most cliche phrases in modern christianity, but that doesn’t take away from its power at all: “What would Jesus do?” Really think about that after giving it a scoff! What would you do if your closest friend and employee had inappropriate sexual relations with a client? Now, what would Jesus do in that same situation? If you really cared about that answer, you would know it’s not an easy decision. That’s why I strive to be a disciple leader.
